The US health regulator has authorized coronavirus vaccines for children as young as 6 months old.

The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) authorization on Thursday allows shots from Pfizer and Moderna to be used on kids 6 months to five years old.

They can be administered as part of a three-dose series for children.

Moderna’s shot has been authorized for use as a booster two months after the initial vaccination.

Meanwhile, Pfizer’s vaccine is allowed as a third dose for kids 6 months to four years old who have not finished the primary series or have not gotten their third dose.

FDA officials encouraged parents to get the shots for their children ‘especially as we head into the holidays and winter months’.
