Indonesia passes controversial new laws

Indonesia’s government has passed controversial new legislation that makes premarital sex illegal.

Under the changes people caught engaging in sexual intercourse or living together outside of marriage may face up to one year in prison.

Lawmakers also passed legislation which imposes a ban on insulting the president or disagreeing with the government ideology.

Civil society groups have labelled the changes as a major setback for the country.
