Arsenal star Bukayo Saka reacts to Gabriel Jesus’ injury at World Cup | Football
Bukayo Saka has revealed he was gutted to learn about the injury suffered by Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Jesus at the World Cup in Qatar.
Saka scored in England’s 3-0 victory over Senegal in the last 16 on Sunday and has faced a press conference ahead of the quarter-final against France.
He was quizzed about Brazil striker Jesus, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament after suffering a knee injury.
Jesus moved to the Emirates this summer from Manchester City in a £45m deal, and along with Saka, has helped Arsenal climb to the top of the Premier League table.
The Gunners are five points clear of second-placed Manchester City and return to top-flight action on December 26 when they host West Ham – a match Jesus will now miss – with his injury ruling him out for three months, according to reports.
Saka has registered five goals and six assists across 20 games in all competitions for Arsenal this term while Jesus has also scored five times and has assisted seven goals in the same number of matches.
‘He’s a very, very, very important player for us [Arsenal] and it’s not good to hear the news,’ Saka said about Jesus’ injury.
‘Obviously I’ve messaged him and I think he’s going to see the doctor and see what he needs to do for the next steps.
‘It’s definitely not good news when I heard that.’
Saka also spoke to the BBC yesterday and lauded Tottenham striker Harry Kane for his goal against Senegal.
‘Harry Kane is like inevitable you know, he was always going to score goals, I was never worried about that,’ Saka said of his England team-mate.
‘He’s been exceptional for us. He is like the glue of the team the way he links up attacks.
‘I knew he would get his goal and he showed unbelievable composure, because it took him so long to strike the ball, but he managed to do what Harry Kane does and put the ball in the back of the net.’
