Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has urged England World Cup star Declan Rice to leave West Ham for a Champions League club.

Rice is currently starring at Qatar 2022 as an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s side, and will no doubt be in the Three Lions’ starting XI for Sunday’s round of 16 clash against Senegal.

His performances at the heart of West Ham and England’s midfield have earned him many admirers and he has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium for some time.

Very recently, the 23-year-old spoke out on his future, suggesting he was more than open to joining a top team, with the Irons enduring a difficult campaign following two seasons of success where David Moyes’ side unexpectedly qualified for European competition.

‘I see my friends here who are playing Champions League football, winning the trophies,’ Rice said.

‘You only get one career and at the end of your career you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in. I’m really ambitious and I really want to do that.’

Petit, a Premier League and World Cup winning midfielder, has now urged Rice to follow his dreams, telling Midnite: ‘Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are among the best [midfield duo] in the world for sure.

‘They are very important to the way that England play. I also really like Casemiro and Lucas Pacqueta [for Brazil].

‘You could also talk about Rice’s future too. I’m sorry West Ham fans, but Declan Rice needs to leave. If he wants to improve he needs to be playing in the Champions League.

‘I know he loves West Ham and he’s dedicated to them but he has to ask himself the question because West Ham are struggling and he needs to be playing with the top players every single weekend.’

Rice has been valued at around £100million, but with his contract up in 2024, the Irons will surely be considering cashing in on their captain very soon before his value diminishes.

Chelsea will be the favourites to sign him, given how Rice came through the Blues’ academy and his close friends with Mason Mount.

United’s interest may have cooled somewhat since the summer, given how their need for a defensive midfielder was met when they signed Casemiro.
